Once you have created your campaign and added your Communication Lists, you are ready to commit to your list/s. This means pushing the list of contacts who meet your filter criteria in to whichever platform you will execute your campaign from. It is also possible to download a Committed List for a mail or telephone campaign.
If you have more than one Communication List within a Campaign, it is important to commit your Communication Lists based on priority. For example, if you are sending an email to season ticket holders, members and ticket holders, you should commit them in that order and use List Exclusion = GroupID to ensure that season ticket holders only get the season ticket holder version, members only get the member version and ticket holders only get the ticket holder version of the communication.
Commit Methods
During the commit process, you'll be prompted to select a Commit Method. It is possible to commit your Communication List to execute campaigns via the following channels. Please note that these may not all be available for you at the current time depending on your current integrations.
Commit to Email
For email campaigns via your Email Service Platform (Dotdigital, Maileon, Salesforce Marketing Cloud etc.). When selecting Commit Method = Email, Commit Type will appear underneath. Select from Regular, Random or Split. Find out more in the section on Commit Types below.
Commit to SMS
For SMS campaigns, usually via your Email Service Platform or another SMS provider (Dotdigital, Maileon, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Esendex etc.). For organisations sending SMS via Maileon, please use Commit Method = Email during the commit process. For organisations sending SMS via Dotdigital, you'll need to commit the Communication List then download and manually import this to Dotdigital.
Commit to Facebook
For Facebook advertising campaigns via Facebook Ad Manager. Commit to Facebook can be used to target your Facebook adverts to specific contacts from your database. In order to use the Commit to Facebook functionality, Facebook firstly needs to be authenticated within APPS.
When selecting Commit Method = Facebook, It is normal for the number in the Committed List to be slightly lower than the counts shown in APPS, as Facebook matches with the email addresses that we deliver. There will be contacts without a Facebook account associated to that specific email address.
Find out how to Authenticate for Commit to Facebook here.
Commit to CRM
For B2B campaigns via your CRM provider. When selecting Commit Method = CRM, a List Name box will appear on the right-hand side for you to complete.
Commit to Mail
For Direct Mail campaigns. When selecting Commit Method = Mail, a Column Selection List will appear on the right-hand side. Select which columns of data you would like to include within the Committed List.
The Column Selection options include: Address1, Address2, Address3, Address4, Address5, Age, Country, Dayphone, DistanceFromClub, DOB, Email, EvePhone, Forename, Gender, Initials, MemberNumber, Mobile, Organisation, Postcode, Surname and Title. Ensure that any columns you would like to include in your Committed Communication List are ticked.
Commit to APP (£)
For push notification campaigns via your Mobile App provider. This can be used to target your push notifications to specific contacts from your database. The implementation for the commit to App functionality requires a live integration with your App provider's CMS with project costs associated. Please speak to your Customer Success manager for more information.
When selecting Commit Method = App, it is normal for the number in the Committed List to be slightly lower than the counts shown in APPS, as your App matches with the email addresses that we deliver. There will be contacts without a mobile App/Single Sign On account associated to that specific email address.
Commit Types
During the commit process when committing selecting Commit Method = Email, it is possible to commit your Communication List as a Regular, Random or Split commit.
Regular commit
This is a standard Commit Type where the full Communication List will be committed at the point that the commit is confirmed.
Random commit
This Commit Type selects a sample from the Communication List completely at random. By moving the slider, the desired percentage or number of contacts from the sample size can be determined.
Split commit
This Commit Type can be used for A/B testing. Enter the number of groups into which the Communication List should be divided for the commit (two, three or four), then select the percentage per group. The number of contacts and email addresses per group will be displayed. Once committed, each Committed List will have a separate commit ID.
Commit a Communication List
- After logging in to APPS, navigate to the Campaign Manager module from the dashboard on the left-hand side and select Campaigns. It is also possible to navigate to your lists directly via Communication List which will then display all existing Communication Lists.
- The Campaigns page will now appear. Navigate to the Campaign that you want to view using the filter icon or search bar in the top right-hand corner. As criteria is added, the list of Campaigns fitting the criteria will update in the background. To navigate out of the filter, click on the X in the top right-hand corner. You can also refresh the list using the circular arrow.
- Once you have located your Campaign, click on the horn icon to view the Communication List page. This will display all Communication Lists associated with your campaign. Ensure that the Channel for your Communication List corresponds to the Commit Method that you will be selecting. If this is incorrect, edit the Communication List.
See the article on Adding a Communication List for how to do this.
- On the Communication List page, highlight the Communication List that you would like to commit. Click on the Commit List button on the right-hand side.
- On the Commit List page, Communication List name will be automatically populated. Select Commit Method from the dropdown list.
-
Next, Under Seed List, you will see the option to Include Seed List and Include Test List. Tick the relevant box/s.
Find out more about Seed and Test Lists here.
-
Select how you would like to Group Results using the dropdown list. This determines whether the communication is sent to an individual record, or sent once per email, mobile or address for those contacts that share the same email, mobile or address details with another contact.
It is recommended to Group Results by Individual if your email contains personalisation, and Group Results by Email if not. For organisations currently using DotDigital as their Email Service Platform you should always Group Results by Email.
-
Select whether you would like to add any List Exclusions. This gives you the option to remove a record if they have appeared in a previously committed list based on email, mobile, address or GroupID.
List Exclusions are important if you are sending multiple communications under the same campaign and want to make sure that each record only gets one communication. For a campaign with multiple Communication Lists, select GroupID (for personalised communications) or Email (for non-personalised communications) and tick any previously committed lists from the campaign as they appear. If this is the first list that you are committing for this campaign, select None.
- Click Commit.
- You will then be redirected to the Commit Status page. Next to the List Name you will see a cog to demonstrate that the commit is processing.
-
Once complete, counts will show under List Count and Processed Count. The status will also change to CompletedSuccessfully. Each Committed List will be assigned a Commit ID, List Count and Processed Count. The Communication List has now been committed successfully.
The processed count is expected to be lower than the list count, as the processed count excludes invalid and suppressed contacts.
If the status changes to something other than CompletedSuccessfully, please raise a case on the Service Desk.
It is possible to recommit a previously committed list by following the instructions above. However, the Commit List page (step 5) will be preceded by a page where you select whether to Commit OLD (recommit the Communication List as it was previously) or Commit NEW (recommit the Communication List with the most up-to-date filter counts). The Communication List name will then include the date and time to differentiate it from the original.
