The Seed List and Test List are both managed within SRM Campaign.
What is the Seed List and how can it be used?
The Seed List is a list of internal contacts that you would like to receive communications sent by your organisation that may not be otherwise present in your database by adding them to your distribution list after you have created your filter in the Filter Builder.
During the commit process, you will have the option to include or exclude your Seed List from your list of contacts. If included, all contacts in the Seed List will be included in the distribution list for that specific communication.
What is the Test List and how can it be used?
The Test List is a list of internal contacts that can be used for testing commits, email dispatches and SMS dispatches. When contacts are added to the Test List they will appear in a node in the Filter Builder, meaning it is possible to create a filter of solely test records.
During the commit process, you will also have the option to include or exclude your Test List from your list of contacts. If included, all contacts in the Test List will be included in the distribution list for that specific communication. It is then possible to create a Test List filter within your Email Service Platform specifically for sending a test Email and/or SMS only to these contacts.
Add Contacts to the Seed / Test List
- After logging in to APPS, navigate to the SRM Campaign module from the dashboard on the lefthand side and select Seed / Test List.
- The Seed / Test List page will now appear. Click Add Recipients in the top right-hand corner to add new records to the Seed / Test List.
- Complete the form by adding Title, Forename, Surname, Email and Mobile Number. Tick In Seed List and/or In Test List depending on which lists the contact needs to be added to. Once the form is completed, click Add Recipient.
- A green Success message will appear in the lower left-hand corner of the screen. The record will also have been created a test Group ID (beginning with a '-') which will be displayed alongside their details.
- Return to the Seed / Test List by clicking the back arrow in the top righthand corner.
- The records will be processed overnight and will exist as seed and/or test records in your Database from the following day.
Update or Delete Records from the Seed / Test List
- After logging in to APPS, navigate to the SRM Campaign module from the dashboard on the lefthand side and select Seed / Test List.
- The Seed / Test List page will now appear. Navigate to the Seed / Test List record that you want to amend or delete using the filter icon or search bar in the top right-hand corner. As criteria is added, the list of records fitting the criteria will update in the background. To navigate out of the filter, click on the X in the top right-hand corner. You can also refresh the list using the circular arrow.
- Once you have located your record, click on the bin icon to delete, or the pencil icon to update. If you choose to delete a record it will be removed immediately from the list and updated in your database overnight.
- If you have selected to amend a record you will be directed to the Update Recipient page. Amend any criteria that you want to update, then click Update Recipient.
- The record has now been updated.
Create a Test List filter
The Test List can also be created as a filter for testing purposes.
- After logging in to APPS, navigate to the SRM Campaign module from the dashboard on the left-hand side and select Builder.
- The Filter Builder page will now appear.
- In the Nodes menu on the left-hand side you will see Contact Channel. Expand this section. Here you will find two nodes: Commit Email Test and Commit SMS Test.
- Drag in the relevant node/s in to the box with the dashed edges in the centre of the screen. This will include those from the Test List in your filter. Check the number of contacts that meet the criteria by clicking Run in the top right-hand corner.
- Click on the floppy disk disk on the right-hand side to save your filter. Add a Filter Name and Filter Description, then click Continue.
- The Test List filter is now ready to attach to a Communication List.

Include the Seed / Test List during commit
The Seed List and Test List can be included in, or excluded from, each list that you commit.
If the Seed List and/or Test List checkboxes are ticked at the point of commit, all internal contacts in your Seed List and/or Test List will be added to the committed list as 'regular' contacts. This means that they are included as if they are part of your filter criteria.
If you are committing a list based on a filter of only test records that you created directly in the Filter Builder, you do not need to tick these two boxes during the commit process.
- Once you are ready to commit your Communication List, click on the commit list button on the right-hand side.
- The Commit List page will now appear. Select your Commit Method, Group Results and List Exclusions. Here, you will also have the option to tick or untick Include Seed List and Include Test List.
- Click Commit.
- You will then be redirected to the Commit Status page. Next to the list name you will see a cog to demonstrate that the commit is processing.
- Once complete, counts will show under List Count and Processed Count. The status will also change to CompletedSuccessfully. Each list will also be assigned a Commit ID, List Count and Processed Count. The list is now ready to use in your Email Service Platform.
If the status changes to something other than CompletedSuccessfully, please raise a case on the Service Desk.
